Release Your Album Digitally

Broken CD

Nobody is buying CD players hence nobody is buying CD’s. Release a digital album and learn to market on the Internet.  The only time you should press CD’s is for live performances and promotional venues.  Other than that, all sales should be digital. If you’re album is not selling, you need to put more time into your marketing.

Marketing is simply Search Engine Optimization. This means getting your name to the top of Google and Yahoo searches. It is not easy but it can and must be done. Make sure your webpages are tagged correctly, categorized, include pictures, weblinks, and make sure weblinks open up in new pages and don’t take viewers away from your webpage, etc… It’s little thing like this people don’t think about that kills them on search indexes. It is very nit picky and time consuming, trust me I know. Then put your music online!

CDbaby.com allows you to sell albums digitally (no CD’s) through major online retailers. If you register with CDbaby you don’t have to upload your music to all the online stores. They do it for you.  They also supply you with a barcode for just $20, allowing Nielsen Soundscan to track your sales.

In addition, CDbaby is ranked high on all the search engines. This increases your chances of coming up on Google and Yahoo searches. Search Engine Optimization baby!

  1. Good advice!

  2. http://awal.com/ provides a similar service and (by the looks of things) is more transparent.

I do not agree, however, that CD production is a waste of time. When was the last time you went to a gig and then remembered to buy them on iTunes? When was the last time they managed to flog you a CD?

  3. Thanks for the input. However, If you read the rest of my posts on this blog you would see that I point out that THE ONLY TIME YOU SHOULD MAKE CD’S IS FOR PROMOTIONAL EVENTS. My readers know that. Little premature you jumped the gun, but read on. Thanks for stopping by.
